Yeşilüzümlü Mushroom Festival 19-21 April 2024

The Yeşilüzümlü Mushroom Festival is taking place from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st April 2024. It is normally an annual event but due to the pandemic and earthquake disaster this hasn’t been the case for the last few years.  It has been sorely missed by locals and visitors so there should be an impressive turnout this year.

The festival celebrates the culinary delicacy of the morel mushroom. The edible fungi have a distinctive honeycomb appearance.  You will find plenty on sale at the festival from villagers who have painstakingly searched them out due to the extravagant price they can fetch.  Everyone is always interested to see how much they are per kilo each year.

The festival is not just about mushrooms, there will be lots of stalls with locals selling everything from homemade Turkish food, crafts, paintings and clothes to name just a few.  You will also be able to sample and purchase the local wine made from grapes grown locally – Yeşilüzüm means green grapes.  Another thing not to miss is watching the local woman weaving their famous and unique ‘dastar’ fabric.

In the quaint village square you will experience a wonderful celebratory atmosphere. There will be a program of events held here throughout the day, including music and dancing.  The local school children usually perform a traditional Turkish dance once a day.

A good tip if you would prefer to visit when it is less crowded is to go on Friday as the weekend will definitely be far busier. Sunday is generally the busiest day and parking can be a nightmare.  Extra dolmuses are put on for the festival and you can catch one from Fethiye mosque (line 3-51) – please click here for the timetable. This is a good option as it takes the hassle out of finding a parking space and means you can enjoy more of the local wine!

Uzumlu village is fast becoming popular choice for those buying a property in Turkey. It is suited to those who appreciate nature and a slower pace of life.  If you are seeking to live in a more traditional, untouched area it is a prefect contender. It isn’t overpopulated but yet still has a small ex-pat community. It is not too far from the larger city of Fethiye and is within a one hour drive from Dalaman international airport.

In comparison to the overpopulated and busier tourist resorts in the Fethiye area, properties in Uzumlu are a fraction of the price. Your money can really go much further here, for the price of an apartment in Calis you can be a luxury villa in Uzumlu! Another big positive for those planning to make a permanent move to Turkey is that is open to residency applications. Please click here to see the properties we currently have on sale in Uzumlu.
